Do I have to use an in-network dentist?
No. With the Safe Passage student dental insurance plans, you have the freedom to use any dentist you would like. You do not need to select your dentist from a list of network providers to qualify for benefits and coverage. However, if you purchase a network plan, you have the ability to lower your out-of-pocket costs and receive the greatest savings when you utilize a MaxCare provider.
The MaxCare Network provides you with:
• Over 200,000 access points nationwide

• Discounts of 5%-50% on most dental services
• Network discounts available immediately

Additionally, when you utilize a MaxCare dental provider, your out-of-pocket costs may be lower because they have agreed to a negotiated fee for covered services.

The MaxCare option is not available in AK, ID, MA, NJ, VT, WA, and in NY the counties of Chenango, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Livingston, Tioga, and Yates. Ameritas will be held harmless in the event that the provider network does not have the appropriate state licensure or that the provider does not honor the network's discount.
What dental plan should I choose?
Some dental plans may work better for you or your family. Here are a few questions to ask yourself, while reviewing plans:
• Are there waiting periods for certain procedures?
• If the plan has a network, does my dentist participate?
• If I used a dentist outside the plan's network, what will the benefits be?
• Is there a deductible on the plan?
• What is the annual maximum?
Are there any waiting periods?
With the Safe Passage student dental plans there are no waiting periods for Preventive Services on any plan. Depending upon the plan selected there may be a waiting period on Basic and/or Major Services.

Please note: Your insurance is effective on the date you selected during enrollment, but you may need to call for verification of benefits if you have an appointment during the first few days of coverage. Our application process may take up to five business days after your application is submitted. If you visit your dental or vision provider during that time, you may need to contact Ameritas customer service at (800) 300-9566 for verification of benefits.
